His company was part of the 5th Regiment of the Virginia line commanded by Colonel Crawford. He was stationed in Williamsburg and Norfolk for the duration of his two year enlistment and did not take part in any military engagements.8

Coppedge closed an account at Branham's store in Albemarle County in Dec 1801, owing a debt of 29 pounds for which he executed a bind payable to the Branhams. He paid all but 2 pounds 10 shillings, but the Branhams did not credit him for all payments and added additional interest. They sued Coppedge in Albemarle County and won because Coppedge did not respond to the suit. Coppage filed suit in Agusta County and was awarded an injunction for all but the 2 pounds 10 shillings.12
