Research Note

There are no definitive sources for the given name of Samuel Dishman's second wife. The genealogy chart prepared by Samuel Roland Dishman lists only a single wife for Samuel Dishman and gives her name as Polly, surname unknown. Polly was a common nickname for Mary, so some believe her given name was Mary. However, Samuel's first wife Mary Butler was also called Polly in at least one record, the birth of her son Samuel as recorded in the Pine Hill Bible. Both William Anderson Hagey and James Dallas Dishman speculate that Samuel's second wife was named Mary or Polly Degges, and use those names in their papers
