- Ann Cox, wife of Valentine Cox, received her 1/3 dower share of her husband's estate when he died in 1813. Son James Cox managed his mother's property until her death. She died intestate in 1823 and son James was appointed as adminsitrator of her estate. He divided the remaining dower share among the nine children of Valentine and Ann Cox.
- Samuel Johnson, husband of Valentine and Ann's daughter Lucy Cox, disputed the value of Lucy's share and sued James Cox for a larger share.
