She taught at White Marsh School in Richmond County, VA, in 1910, at the Ninde Store public school along with Miss Sadie Wilson, and then became one of the first teachers at the Madison School when it opened in 1913. She ended her teaching career in 1916 when she married because married women were not allowed to be teachers.
