Y-DNA Results from 37-Marker Test

I had the 37-marker Y chromosome (Y-DNA) test performed by Family Tree DNA. I followed this up with the Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP) test to try and get a better classification of my haplogroup.

My haplogroup is as

R1b1a2a1

This corresponds to test results of

L150+ U198- U106- P312- L51- L48- L325- L257- L217- L210 L2- L193- L1-

In human genetics, Haplogroup R1b is the most frequently occurring Y-chromosome haplogroup in Western Europe, parts of central Eurasia, and in parts of sub-Saharan Central Africa. R1b is also present at lower frequencies throughout Eastern Europe, Western Asia, Central Asia, and parts of South Asia and North Africa. Due to European emigration it also reaches high frequencies in the Americas and Australia. Western Europe is dominated by the R1b1a2 (R-M269) branch of R1b. It is believed to have expanded throughout Europe as humans re-colonized after the last glacial perioed ended approximately 10-12 thousand years ago. The following figure shows the distribution of R1b across Europe.

Being a member of haplogroup R1b distribution does support the belief based on the records that the Dishman ancestors come from Western Europe, but the field of genetic genealogy is still evolving and it is difficult to draw specific conclusions about the Dishman origins.

My DNA results are available at ysearch.org under user ID U2UF7 or surname Dishman. Ysearch.org is a public database of DNA results maintained by Family Tree DNA and currently has over 100,000 records. There are no exact matches with anyone else to the 37 markers in my test result (not a surprising result).

I have a binder containing a family tree dating all the way back to Samuel. Being that from Samuel I am a 10th generation Dishman, I am surprised to hear that the family is from France. I was always told that we came from England and our name is German.

      Hi Travis,

My mother was a Dishman. Samuel was my 5th great grandfather. We too, here in Spfd Mo. thought that we were English….up until about 5 years ago. There is a large group of Dishmans in the Springfield area…we even have our own cemetery.

Keith, you might be interested in the recent book review entitled “Genes Don’t Fit” found in the Weekly Standard. The link is:
http://www.weeklystandard.com/articles/genes-dont-fit_645887.html. Unfortunately you need a subscription to read the full article. It’s a review of the book “DNA USA” by Bryan Sykes. The reviewer, Temma Ehrenfeld, delves into how messy genetic code testing is. Here’s a sample: “Such theories have made Native Americans deeply suspicious of white men who come wanting cheek swabs. When, after much debate, the Seaconke Wampanoag of Rhode Island did volunteer for genetic testing, the results astonished even Sykes. The tribe is famous for sharing Thanksgiving dinner in 1621 with the Mayflower settlers. But the tests showed that, at least on the maternal side, there was no evidence of Native American genes at all. Sykes leaves us with the mystery: “No race or ethnic group can ever be accurately defined by the genes they carry,” he states unambiguously, and the odd results with the Seaconke are a vivid illustration of that point. ” If you are interested in the full article, let me know and I can send you a copy. 2350 9/2/2012 I found your website as I searched for more information on L 150. I am +L23 and +l150, and I am – six other SNPs. My earliest known grandfather was from SE Poland (Austria-Hungry). Any information on L150 would be appreciated.
