James Degges Will [1777]
In the name of God Amen. I James Degges of Westmoreland County
being sick and weak, but of sound mind and memory do make and ordain
this my last Will and testament in manner and form following. Imprimis.
I give to my nephew Christopher Edrington the Tract of Land whereon I
now live together with the Land purchased by my mother of Jeremiah
Murdock, and liberty of getting Timber for the use of the plantation
from the land my Father purchased of Bunch Roe, to him & the heirs of
his body Lawfully begotton, and in case my nephew died without heirs,
then it is my desire that the land be divided between my neices, Ann,
Elizabeth, and Susanna Edrington.
I give to my nephew James Degges Dishman my Tract of Land laying in the
swamp purchased as above mentioned by my father of Bunch Roe to him and
the heirs of his Body Lawfully begotten and if my nephew dies without
such heir, then the Land to be sold and the money equally divided among
his sisters. It is my desire that my slaves and Cash be equally divided
among my Sisters Children, my Sister Harrison's Daughter Elizabeth
excepted who I desire may have only an equal part of my cash, all the
rest of my Estate to be sold, and the cash arising from the sale to be
equally divided among my Sisters, Edrington & Dishman's Children. I
leave my nephew Christopher Edrington, and my friend Joseph Fox
Executors of this my last will and Testament. In witness whereof I have
hereunto set my hand & seal this 28th day of Dec. 1777.

At a Court held for Westmoreland County the 27th day of January 1778.
This will was proved according to law by the Oaths of Benjamin Steward
William Clutton and Matthew Sparks three of the witnesses thereto and
ordered to be recorded and on the motion of Christopher Edrington &
Joseph Fox the Exors, therein named sho made oath thereto according to
law and together with Samuel Dishman and Daniel Edrington their
securities entered into an acknowledged bond with condition as the law
directs certificate is granted them for obtaining a probate thereof in
due form.
